USMC Boot Camp 1967, MCRD San Diego Platoon # 2218, to MCAS El Toro’s closing in 17 Minutes.
*PLEASE* IF YOUR IN THIS VIDEO, I VERY MUCH WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. I don’t expect the younger generation to watch what I endured in Boot Camp. Why? Well, it is 17 minutes long. Who has time for history? But for those that do and for those who were there, this is for you. I’ve included pictures from my Boot Camp, like none you have seen, including me. Things were different back then. Vietnam war, no computers, and no cell phones. But us older folks did what we thought was right. I salute all military personnel past and present for doing all we can to keep our country safe. I am getting a bit worried however. Let’s try to get it together and be safe. Thanks so kindly for subscribing, voting, and supporting my nightflyyer Channel. Just wanted to say hello to an ex-Marine. I went through boot camp in 1963-64
and to Viet Nam in 65. I was always glad to see the air support. They saved our
butts more than once over there. I was in “Lima” co. 3rd Bn. 9th Reg.3rd Mar Div
I fly rc helicopters also.I always enjoy your videos and learn something also.
Excellent Video! Joined in 1992. Graduated Boot Camp from San Diego. Avionics in Millington TN. First duty station was El Toro. I was there until it was closed down in 1996 and was then picked up for MECEP. I am still in today after 2 tours of Iraq, 1 of Afghanistan and just came back from NAVCENT in Bahrain. Watching your video was like being in a time warp and jumping back 25 years. I love the consistency (yet change) of our Corps! Semper Fi! Maj W
SEMPER FI DUDE I MADE THE TRIP IN 70′ MAYBE EVEN SLEPT IN THE SAME RACK .WE WERE 1ST BATT QUNSOT HUTS AND ALL. FROM TIME TO TIME I WIN BOOT CAMP YEARBOOKS ON EBAY AND HOW IS IT OUR GUYS ARE IN YOUR YEARBOOK? WHERE THE RIFLE INSTRUCTOR IS SHOWING CLASS OUTDOORS THAT US PACHECO IN THE FRONT ROW MAN THAT IS CREEPY. i’VE EMAILED SOME EXES AND THEY AGREE. WE HAVE ALL BEEN HERE BEFORE ! SO MUCH OLDER THEN BUT YOUNGER THAN THAT NOW. SAW DEEP PURPLE A T THE SAN DIEGO CIVIC CENTER OUTTA SIGHT !
Also, just an FYI, I’ve been to Pendleton and San Diego making deliveries in my big truck. (I got to see the USS John C. Stennis while I was in SD! Man that thing was HUGE!) Many of those buildings in the pics were very familiar to me!
Absolutely awesome! This video brought it all back for me as well. I saw MANY similarities from my own boot camp experiences in the Army. SSGT Monroe looked SHARP in the pics, I can see why you respected him. You guys all looked sharp too as time progressed. That happens with a well trained unit over time. Working together as a TEAM without even thinking about it. It just becomes instinctive to you naturally. Thanks for serving our country so proudly, Dave. Semper Fi! 5 stars.
awesome video thank you for the trip back in time it was great i hope todays young people enjoy your video i know i did. thank you for your service MSgt Herbert….
Dave,
You truly are a fine American. Thank you for your service to our country. If only we had leaders in our government with the core values that you have. This is a great video! Thanks again.

Thanks for the history. I enjoyed it even though I was an Army brat.
Thanks for your service.
23 years old and loved it Dave. Fantastic video Sir. What incredible experiences you have had! The Phantom has always been my favorite jet followed closely by the A-10. Graceful and beautiful. My dad recently found some old 8mm videos of my grandfather when he was a firefighter at the MCAS Miramar. He was also an airplane mechanic during the end of WWII. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us.
Semper Fidelis MSgt Herbert!
OORAH! Love this video, Dave!

Fantastic vid, Dave. Thanks for you years of service. God bless you. I think it was El Toro that my Dad took me to see the Blue Angels fly. I know we went to Pt. Magu, too. Where did you get all that old footage from your service days? Awesome. Thanks again for sharing. Take care.
Fantastic video Dave. I watched it all and rewound parts of it.
