Staying In Shape

Staying In Shape: Keeping Your Diet Simple and Effective For Weight Loss

Let’s face it – it’s not easy to stay in shape.  In our society today where everything looks consumable, it’s not that difficult to stuff food in our mouths without even thinking whether or not it is going to add another inch (or inches) to our pants size.  Of course, we can deny the fact that it doesn’t really matter if we have gained a couple of pounds, and that our essence really comes from within, but let’s all be honest here – you wouldn’t be reading this article if you are not bothered, or at least even curious about your weight. The fact that you are reading this means you are concerned about your appearance. And it’s not bad. One of the healthy indicators of self-esteem is how a person takes good care of his appearance. As long as it doesn’t get obsessive to the point of suicide, then it’s actually healthy to take stock of how you look and make some small adjustments along the way.

These adjustments are not uncommon, especially for those who have some excess weight to lose. There are many ways people try to stay in shape. Some hire a personal trainer to motivate them to shed the pounds. Others take up less conventional ways of exercising, such as playing team sports like basketball, volleyball, hockey, softball, badminton and the like. Others take diet supplements that promise to decrease the appetite or increase the metabolism.  Some may even use alternative medicines, such as acupuncture to get rid of fat or to reduce cravings. However, most people resort to controlling their diets when it comes to staying in shape. Here, everything is possible, and the sky’s the limit when it comes to concocting newer alternatives to weight loss. If you don’t believe this, check your bookstore. See how many kinds of diet there are – from grapefruit diet, to a no-carbs diet, to a no-protein diet, to apple cider diets and even pepper diets. The list is endless.

So what is the answer? It’s very simple – plain common sense. What your grandmother and mother taught you about diets are actually the most favourable ones, because they are loaded with common sense. Simple guidelines, such as exercise and eat in moderation, eat your fruits and vegetables, eliminate junk food , and drinking water are the timeless advices that have stood the test of time, and it doesn’t require a lot. All you need is a bit of discipline and a commitment to be fit.

As we have said earlier, staying in shape is not easy – but it is not impossible either. Just keep your diet simple and use some common sense, and soon, you will see that you’ve dropped a size or two without even breaking a sweat.
